The Bright Season
We have crossed the imaginary line
into Summer,
and our mindset has changed;
now we rue every rainy day.
As evenings grow longer,
children scamper across
bright green lawns,
chasing the elusive flickering firefly.
Bikers and joggers are about and knees reappear;
softball games are played under the lights.
The lake or the backyard pool tempt us in.
The sea beckons, and we will go
to be dazzled by sparkling sand and waves alike,
and we will revel, carefree,
in the warmth of the Summer sun.
