Metamorphosis
The worm-like Caterpillar munches his way
through fragrant leaves, and sated, rests;
becoming, when he wakes,
a miracle of grace and beauty.
We move from infancy to old age
also changing in astonishing ways
as life alters us;
hones us;
carves us.
To be fully human, we must feel.
Sometimes joyful, at other times agonizing,
the emotions make us who we are.
Each person who touches us,
adds substance and meaning to our lives;
and each experience, painful or joyous,
teaches us how to live.
